Uche Leona is a Nigerian born actress and model who is originally from Neni of Anambra State, located in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. MY CHARITY PROJECT CARRIED OUT DURING MY TENURE AS AN NACC QUEEN 👸
It’s been a thrilling opportunity occupying the position as crowned queen of Miss NACC (Miss National Association of Catholic Corpers, Ogun state). It has exposed me to the need to attend to underlying responsibilities not just to self but to humanity. In thoughts of what to give back for the privilege and honor bequeathed on me, before handing over the crown, I organized a charity project. This would be my first Charity project/Outreach but it meant the world to me.
On Sunday, the 18th of September, 2016, Myself, some Catholic Corpers (NACC Members), accompanied by Rev. Fr. Steven Okanla from the Ijebu-Ode Diocese made it a day at the state hospital, popularly known as ‘General Hospital’, Ogun state to build memories with the children, the sick patients and the pregnant women at the maternity ward.
On arriving at the children’s ward, we had met a child, about 7-8 years of age, on an emergency case who seemed to be in a situation of life and death. The mother who was quite depressed and helpless at the situation, beckoned on us to call the priest to pray for her daughter. Upon getting to her bedside, sadly, the little girl had stopped breathing. Regardless, the priest laid his hands on her and prayed for her and a miracle happened. In some sprinting seconds, the little girl had started gasping for breath. The nurse quickly made it in time to revivify her with the oxygen aid she had been surviving on. The priest calmed her mother down and we left, relieved.
We headed on to the other wards, with items which I came with to support them. The priest prayed for the pregnant women at the maternity ward for safe deliveries. Having realized that I had just one gift pack left, I decided to take it to the little girl who had just been brought back to life but to my disappointment, the little girl eventually passed on. Her body wasn’t even there anymore. It had been taken away. Even though in tears, I was at least thankful for the anointing she was able to receive before passing on.
The patients at the hospital were all grateful but personally, I was even more grateful because the Joy in my heart for reaching out to the sick was overpowering. Regardless of challenges faced here and there, four things which made my little project even more fulfilling was that with the help of family and friends, I was able to successfully achieve the presence of a priest, a bus to convey us to and fro, the exact amount of gift packs needed (which went round to everyone), and the gratifying happiness and smiles written on all their faces.This can be compared to nothing.
And for the little girl, she’s surely one of the reasons I’m thankful for the project which came in timely. I pray that her soul is by now resting in the Lord’s Bosom. Thanks to my family for the immense support and to friends and loved ones who extended their support both with their presence, resources and prayers. I’m entirely grateful and I pray for yet another privilege to do this again.
